So, while this blog has been unofficially out of service for over a year, with a great resource like Newser at your disposal I am going to officially close the doors on “The Antidote.” I have an idea in mind of someday doing a regular blog with a top headline from the day followed by a Biblical perspective on that headline.  I am sure it is being done else where, but I may do it anyway. We’ll see. I’ll be sure to let you all know if I get that one started.

Additionally, (from USA Today) “White House energy adviser Carol Browner said Wednesday that a new assessment found 75% of the oil in the Gulf has been captured, burned off, evaporated or broken down….Browner called static kill an ‘important step’ but also said that the ‘final kill-kill’ will come from the two relief wells set to be completed in the next 10 to 14 days.”

The announcement came after a series of failed attempts to cap or contain the runaway well that tested the nation’s patience. Mr. Wells [BP Senior VP] emphasized that pressure tests were being conducted to determine the status of the well, which is now sealed like a soda bottle.  BP and the government could decide to allow the oil to flow again and try to collect all of it; they could allow the oil to flow and, if tests show the well can withstand the pressure from the cap, close the well during hurricanes; or they could leave the well closed permanently.

“It’s like putting a Band-Aid on a dead man in my opinion,” said Jeff Ussury, 48, who considers his days as a crabber over for good.  He doubted the news of the capping was even true.  “I started out kind of believing in them,” he said, “but I don’t believe in them at all anymore.”

“The most serious charges center on the alleged actions of Sgt. Kenneth Bowen, Sgt. Robert Gisevius, Officer Robert Faulcon and Officer Anthony Villavaso.

The four are charged first with shooting into a group of six unarmed people who were walking across the city’sDanziger Bridge on Sept. 4, 2005, in search of food and other scarce supplies, killing James Brissette, 17, and wounding four others.

A short time later, according to court papers, the officers fired on two unarmed brothers while they were on their way to check on a relative’s property. Ronald Madison, a severely disabled 40-year-old man, was fatally shot in the back. The indictment alleges that Faulcon shot Madison and charges Bowen with “stomping and kicking” the victim while he was wounded but not yet dead.

Madison’s brother, Lance Madison, 49, was later arrested and accused of attempting to murder police officers, according to court documents. He was held three weeks before a judge ordered his release.”

Ginther won $10 million off a $50 scratch-off ticket, split a $11 million jackpot on another ticket, netted $3 million off a scratch off ticket in 2006 and $2 million off another scratch-off in 2006.  The woman remains largely aloof.  Due to her winnings Ginther quickly became the most famous resident of Bishop, TX and its 3,300 residents.  She now lives in Las Vegas.

Lohan was sentenced for violating probation after a DUI in 2007.  Through tears Lohan expressed compliance to the judge but a message painted on her middle finger sent a different message.  USA Today’s “ chief legal analyst Dan Abrams said this morning that Lohan is ‘getting a very tough sentence.’ The judge is ‘sending a message’ of her own. ‘You can’t thumb your nose’ at the legal system, he said.

The West Virginia Democrat had been in the Senate for 50 years serving with 11 different presidents.  Senator Byrd will be remembered for his in-depth knowledge of the Senate and the Senate’s history.  He was known as a fierce defender of the Constitution carrying a copy in his coat pocket which he referenced often.  He was a strong defender of Congress regularly noting that the Constitution called for three separate but equal branches of government.  When asked Senator Byrd stated that he was most proud of his vote against the Iraq War in 2002.  Byrd will also be remembered for his vocal opposition to civil rights legislation in the 1960′s and his membership in the Ku Klux Klan in the 1940′s.  For this he regularly apologized calling it a “terrible mistake.”
